The requirement to obtain permits in order to conceal a personal handgun may soon come to an end in 12 states where lawmakers are currently debating the permit requirement.

Supporters of the measure argue that crime rates are already low in Alaska, Arizona, Vermont and Wyoming, states where a carry and conceal permit is not required. Gun-control advocates on the other hand believe the measure is part of a long-range strategy to weaken gun control laws in the United States.

In the meantime gun-control advocates worry that buyers will purchase and carry guns in public even when they have no experience shooting the weapons they buy. Opponents also worry that police officers will be at an increased risk of encountering bad situations in which concealed firearms play a part in their decision making processes.

States currently considering the no permit law include: Colorado, Iowa, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota and Virgina, according to the NRA.

The first state to jump into the mix appears to be South Dakota after lawmakers last week created a law allowing anyone 18 or older with a valid state driver’s license to carry a concealed weapon following a clean background check, that bill is still awaiting final approval from Republican Gov. Dennis Daugaard.

Other states have various laws already being argued in their respective houses and senate that would allow for non-permitted gun carry.

Do you think permits should be required for conceal carry or should a cleared background check be enough for anyone 18 years or older to hide a gun on their person? Leave your comment/opinion.

Gun bill is an assault on our right to bear arms, Richard Lewis, Weymouth
GateHouse News Service

It is embarrassing and disgraceful that some Massachusetts legislators are hell bent on destroying the Constitution and established law.

State Rep. Timothy J. Toomey of Cambridge in January filed one of the most insidious gun control bills in the country. Toomey’s bill would force most law abiding gun owners in Massachusetts to make a choice between loosing their legal ability to own a gun, or become criminals.

H.665, requiring certain insurance policies for persons with firearm licenses, is inconsistent with recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings and a recent Massachusetts House proclamation supporting the Second Amendment.

The first step in exchanging real freedom for a more controlled, or limited freedom, like in other countries, is to limit our gun rights, our Second Amendment. This bill is not about insurance, it’s about oppression. It would put a terrible infringement of our basic civil rights into law.

Hopefully, voters will wake up in 2011 and 2012 and remove all politicians who, like Toomey, would help destroy this state and our country with bills and laws like this.

RICHARD LEWIS, Weymouth

Mark’s NOTE: Not one politician ever elected in this country was ever given a mandate to strip Americans of any of their Constitutional rights, no one has ever run on that platform, they have NO magical mandate to do so now. Remove from office every charlatan who thinks he/she does!

Gun control column reeks of anti-Americanism,  Richard Lewis, Weymouth
GateHouse News Service

As a veteran of the U.S. Air Force for almost nine years who took a lifetime oath to “preserve and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” I have learned to recognize the enemies of freedom almost instantaneously.

Michael Kryzanek’s Feb. 5 column on further restricting the Second Amendment (“U.S. could learn from other nations’ gun policies”) reeks of anti-Americanism, naivety and deceit.

This is a perfect example of how a domestic enemy thinks and expresses their agenda.
This display of foolish and arrogant hatred of the Second Amendment is so typical of today’s “intellectuals” and progressive politicians.

Their continued attempts to confuse the uninformed with their “facts” to try and prove their socialist, progressive point of view never ends. The target audience here is his empty-headed activist college students, as well as other elitist university professors and liberal politicians.

Their constitutional right to spew this socialist agenda in the The Patriot Ledger is solely and completely dependent upon our Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and our rights as outlined in the Massachusetts Constitution, “The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

This is not too difficult for anyone to understand, not even for a college student or professor.

A free people can only continue to live free if we pass on to our progeny the rights to live as the founders of this strange and wonderful country intended, through truth and common sense.

Our rights are not negotiable.

If and when the American people become too apathetic and lazy to fight to keep them, then America will change. Our children and grandchildren will curse us for allowing the socialist progressives to win.

Federal judge says gun owners need not provide ‘good reason,’ rules Maryland law unconstitutional

 Published March 05, 2012  FoxNews.com

BALTIMORE –  Maryland residents do not have to provide a “good and substantial reason” to legally own a handgun, a federal judge ruled Monday, striking down as unconstitutional the state’s requirements for getting a permit.

U.S. District Judge Benson Everett Legg wrote that states are allowed some leeway in deciding the way residents exercise their Second Amendment right to bear arms, but Maryland’s objective was to limit the number of firearms that individuals could carry, effectively creating a rationing system that rewarded those who provided the right answer for wanting  to own a gun.

“A citizen may not be required to offer a ‘good and substantial reason’ why he should be permitted to exercise his rights,” Legg wrote. “The right’s existence is all the reason he needs.”

Plaintiff Raymond Woollard obtained a handgun permit after fighting with an intruder in his Hampstead home in 2002, but was denied a renewal in 2009 because he could not show he had been subject to “threats occurring beyond his residence.”

Woollard appealed, but his appeal was rejected by the review board, which found he hadn’t demonstrated a “good and substantial reason” to carry a handgun as a reasonable precaution. The suit filed in 2010 claimed that Maryland didn’t have a reason to deny the renewal and wrongly put the burden on Woollard to show why he still needed to carry a gun.

“People have the right to carry a gun for self-defense and don’t have to prove that there’s a special reason for them to seek the permit,” said his attorney Alan Gura, who has challenged handgun bans in the District of Columbia and Chicago as an attorney with the Second Amendment Foundation. “We’re not against the idea of a permit process, but the licensing system has to acknowledge that there’s a right to bear arms.”

In his ruling, Legg wrote that Second Amendment protections aren’t limited to the household.

“In addition to self-defense, the (Second Amendment) right was also understood to allow for militia membership and hunting. To secure these rights, the Second Amendment’s protections must extend beyond the home: neither hunting nor militia training is a household activity, and ‘self-defense has to take place wherever (a) person happens to be,’” Legg wrote.

“Judge Legg’s ruling takes a substantial step toward restoring the Second Amendment to its rightful place in the Bill of Rights and provides gun owners with another significant victory,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “The federal district court has carefully spelled out the obvious, that the Second Amendment does not stop at one’s doorstep, but protects us wherever we have a right to be.”

The lawsuit names the state police superintendent and members of the Handgun Permit Review Board as defendants. A spokesman from Maryland’s attorney general’s office was not immediately available to comment.

Many states require gun permits, but six states, including Maryland, issue permits on a discretionary basis, Gura said. In most of those states, these challenges have not succeeded in U.S. District Courts, but they are being appealed, he said.

“Most states that choose to regulate the right to bear arms have licensing systems that are objective and straight forward,” Gura said. “That’s all that we want for Maryland.”

A second Obama term will give him the opportunity to appoint at least 2 supreme court justices. A left wing bias to the court will quickly strike out large parts of the Constitution in the name of progressiveness.
Not only with respect to the Second Amendment but across the board. Health Care, Immigration, Education and Energy will ,to use the Presidents own words, to be fundamentally changed.  Make absolutely no mistake.
Any gun owner in the USA voting Democrat in November is the quintessential Turkey voting for Thanksgiving. They are voting to hand over their guns, their rights to ever own a gun and most important a total change in the American way of life. That is the message every NRA member should be putting out, to all 80+ million gun owners.

MARK’s NOTE: I thought this article should be reprinted here. It is an attack on the Constitution, our freedoms and the Second Amendment by one of Obama’s Chicago anti gun buddy’s. Make no mistake, this is from the pre WW ll playbook of Germany’s Adolf Hitler, as well as all dictators past and present bent on disarmament prior to firearm confiscation then genicide. History has already shown us, ’lest we forget’. Illinois is one state that will start a cancer that begins creeping across our nation if we do not stop it cold now.

At the bottom of this article are some wise words from the founding fathers of our Republic, listen well and heed them, they stand between us and those who would destroy our Constitution.

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing” Edmond Burke

By John Byrne and Ray Long Clout Street

3:36 p.m. CST, February 9, 2012

Mayor Rahm Emanuel today said he wants state lawmakers to approve a statewide handgun registry.

The request immediately ran into staunch opposition in Springfield, where gun control issues are often as much about geography as partisanship.

Rep. Brandon Phelps, who has championed efforts to pass a concealed weapons bill in Illinois, said the mayor’s office called him Thursday morning to let him know the registration proposal would be introduced.

“Number 1,  my first response was I don’t know why you’re trying to do this statewide because we don’t want your policies on us downstate,” said Phelps, a Southern Illinois Democrat from Harrisburg. “Number. 2, it’s never going to work. They’re trying to go after criminals. They’re never going to register their guns. They won’t pay the fee. “

Phelps called Emanuel’s initiative a “slap in the face of every law-abiding gun owner.”

The mayor said requiring handgun owners to register particular weapons would reduce the flow of illegal guns into Chicago from around the state by making it easier for police to figure out where they came from.

The registry proposal, which Emanuel said lawmakers will introduce in Springfield in coming weeks, would require anyone who buys a handgun to pay a $65 registration fee. To register a gun, a purchaser would need to provide his name and address, along with the weapon’s serial number and the place and date of purchase. The registry would be in addition to the firearm ownership standards all gun owners must already meet.

Emanuel said he’s aware it will be tough to get lawmakers from outside Chicago to go along with the idea of a gun registry.

“I didn’t go into this because I thought it was a slam dunk. You don’t need me for that,” Emanuel said at a news conference with Police Supt. Garry McCarthy and others at a youth center in the Roseland neighborhood to announce the proposal. “You don’t need my political capital for the easy things. You use your political capital for the tough things that are the right things to do.”

But Emanuel said statistics show more than half the firearms recovered by Chicago police come from inside Illinois. “I’m introducing this because our law enforcement community, our parents, our community groups, our block and neighborhood watch groups, need a proper gun legislation to complement all the other activities we’re doing,” he said.

State Rep. Rosemary Mulligan, R-Park Ridge, will be one of the bill’s sponsors in the House, Emanuel said, which he hopes will help give the proposal the bipartisan boost it needs to pass the legislature.

Critics are likely to point out that criminals who don’t abide by gun laws are unlikely to register their weapons.

The Tribune is gathering reaction from state lawmakers and is asking Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn to weigh in as well. We’ll update this story when we have more information.

I am a conservative, I know many more conservatives.  We no longer are part of the Republican party, the Republican party has left us with its insistence for pushing moderate candidates down our throats. Moderate candidates do not represent our principles, and we will not ‘settle’ for or ‘accept’ a moderate candidate such as Romney on the ‘notion’ he is more ‘electable’. We will not bend our principles, when you do they are no longer principals. We want accountability, no, we want a reckoning in regards to accountability that no sheepish timid moderate can satisfy.

John McCain was the last moderate that was pushed on us by the GOP, how did that work out? Bob Dole preceded John McCain against Clinton, how did that work out? And the GOP still is to dense to get the message that it has disenfranchised conservatives, and brother, that is dense. It is dense enough to put Obama back in office for 4 more years, that’s how dense the GOP has become.

I watch Bill O’Reilley, in the ‘so called’ no spin zone, he is subtle, but none the less, try as he might, he wears Romney on his sleeve. He offers suggestions on how Romney should act and what he should say. He brings on guests that all have their suggestions for Romney. If Romney were a conservative with steadfast values he would not need all the ‘advice’, he would know what to do and what to say, and he would say it with conviction, with no apologies. Chris Christie nor anyone else will be up on that stage with Romney when he debates Obama to prod Romney with advice. Romney has very rehearsed answers to specific questions, if a question is presented that is out of his rehearsed answers he begins to look uncomfortable and to ‘waffle’. I am as qualified as anyone to say that, (even the talking heads). My wife and I have watched each and every debate thus far.

Because I have watched all the debates, I can also say, without reservation, that Newton Gingrich, (Newt) needs no such advice from ‘talking heads’ in the media such as O’Rilley. Perry endorsed Gingrich, Perry knows what this country needs, he is not only a conservative but also a true patriot for his endorsment! Newt knows what needs to be said and he says it. We need that very refreshing bluntness, as an American I am not put off by the harsh truth, I welcome it. Truth has been a political casualty for far to long, Newt is the only conservative on the stage, and he will never need a teleprompter to express his conservative views. Teleprompters are to remind liars to keep their lies in order.

The GOP is afraid of Newt because he will bring fiscal responsibility to Washington, he has done it before and can do it again. The GOP is afraid because he will hold people accountable, they know they cannot manipulate Gingrich like they would a timid Romney, and that terrifies them. That is precisely why they will continue to push moderates down our throats. If Romney ‘buys’ the GOP nomination as they plan, my wife, son, and I, as true conservatives will sit this one out, we care if Obama gets back in, it will do more damage to America,  but it will be obvious the GOP doesn’t want us anymore.

The ’Speech’, Somewhere in England, June 5th,1944

General Patton arose and strode swiftly to the microphone. The men snapped to their feet and stood silently. Patton surveyed the sea of brown with a grim look. “Be seated”, he said. The words were not a request, but a command. The General’s voice rose high and clear.

“Men, this stuff that some sources sling around about America wanting out of this war, not wanting to fight, is a crock of bullshit. Americans love to fight, traditionally. All real Americans love the sting and clash of battle. You are here today for three reasons. First, because you are here to defend your homes and your loved ones. Second, you are here for your own self respect, because you would not want to be anywhere else. Third, you are here because you are real men and all real men like to fight. When you, here, everyone of you, were kids, you all admired the champion marble player, the fastest runner, the toughest boxer, the big league ball players, and the All-American football players. Americans love a winner. Americans will not tolerate a loser. Americans despise cowards. Americans play to win all of the time. I wouldn’t give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That’s why Americans have never lost nor will ever lose a war; for the very idea of losing is hateful to an American.”

The General paused and looked over the crowd. “You are not all going to die,” he said slowly. “Only two percent of you right here today would die in a major battle. Death must not be feared. Death, in time, comes to all men. Yes, every man is scared in his first battle. If he says he’s not, he’s a liar. Some men are cowards but they fight the same as the brave men or they get the hell slammed out of them watching men fight who are just as scared as they are. The real hero is the man who fights even though he is scared. Some men get over their fright in a minute under fire. For some, it takes an hour. For some, it takes days. But a real man will never let his fear of death overpower his honor, his sense of duty to his country, and his innate manhood. Battle is the most magnificent competition in which a human being can indulge. It brings out all that is best and it removes all that is base. Americans pride themselves on being He Men and they ARE He Men. Remember that the enemy is just as frightened as you are, and probably more so. They are not supermen.”

“All through your Army careers, you men have bitched about what you call “chicken shit drilling”. That, like everything else in this Army, has a definite purpose. That purpose is alertness. Alertness must be bred into every soldier. I don’t give a fuck for a man who’s not always on his toes. You men are veterans or you wouldn’t be here. You are ready for what’s to come. A man must be alert at all times if he expects to stay alive. If you’re not alert, sometime, a German son-of-an-asshole-bitch is going to sneak up behind you and beat you to death with a sockful of shit!” The men roared in agreement.

Patton’s grim expression did not change. “There are four hundred neatly marked graves somewhere in Sicily”, he roared into the microphone, “All because one man went to sleep on the job”. He paused and the men grew silent. “But they are German graves, because we caught the bastard asleep before they did”. The General clutched the microphone tightly, his jaw out-thrust, and he continued, “An Army is a team. It lives, sleeps, eats, and fights as a team. This individual heroic stuff is pure horse shit. The bilious bastards who write that kind of stuff for the Saturday Evening Post don’t know any more about real fighting under fire than they know about fucking!”

The men slapped their legs and rolled in glee. This was Patton as the men had imagined him to be, and in rare form, too. He hadn’t let them down. He was all that he was cracked up to be, and more. He had IT!

“We have the finest food, the finest equipment, the best spirit, and the best men in the world”, Patton bellowed. He lowered his head and shook it pensively. Suddenly he snapped erect, faced the men belligerently and thundered, “Why, by God, I actually pity those poor sons-of-bitches we’re going up against. By God, I do”. The men clapped and howled delightedly. There would be many a barracks tale about the “Old Man’s” choice phrases. They would become part and parcel of Third Army’s history and they would become the bible of their slang.

“My men don’t surrender”, Patton continued, “I don’t want to hear of any soldier under my command being captured unless he has been hit. Even if you are hit, you can still fight back. That’s not just bull shit either. The kind of man that I want in my command is just like the lieutenant in Libya, who, with a Luger against his chest, jerked off his helmet, swept the gun aside with one hand, and busted the hell out of the Kraut with his helmet. Then he jumped on the gun and went out and killed another German before they knew what the hell was coming off. And, all of that time, this man had a bullet through a lung. There was a real man!”

Patton stopped and the crowd waited. He continued more quietly, “All of the real heroes are not storybook combat fighters, either. Every single man in this Army plays a vital role. Don’t ever let up. Don’t ever think that your job is unimportant. Every man has a job to do and he must do it. Every man is a vital link in the great chain. What if every truck driver suddenly decided that he didn’t like the whine of those shells overhead, turned yellow, and jumped headlong into a ditch? The cowardly bastard could say, “Hell, they won’t miss me, just one man in thousands”. But, what if every man thought that way? Where in the hell would we be now? What would our country, our loved ones, our homes, even the world, be like? No, Goddamnit, Americans don’t think like that. Every man does his job. Every man serves the whole. Every department, every unit, is important in the vast scheme of this war. The ordnance men are needed to supply the guns and machinery of war to keep us rolling. The Quartermaster is needed to bring up food and clothes because where we are going there isn’t a hell of a lot to steal. Every last man on K.P. has a job to do, even the one who heats our water to keep us from getting the ‘G.I. Shits’.”

Patton paused, took a deep breath, and continued, “Each man must not think only of himself, but also of his buddy fighting beside him. We don’t want yellow cowards in this Army. They should be killed off like rats. If not, they will go home after this war and breed more cowards. The brave men will breed more brave men. Kill off the Goddamned cowards and we will have a nation of brave men. One of the bravest men that I ever saw was a fellow on top of a telegraph pole in the midst of a furious fire fight in Tunisia. I stopped and asked what the hell he was doing up there at a time like that. He answered, “Fixing the wire, Sir”. I asked, “Isn’t that a little unhealthy right about now?” He answered, “Yes Sir, but the Goddamned wire has to be fixed”. I asked, “Don’t those planes strafing the road bother you?” And he answered, “No, Sir, but you sure as hell do!” Now, there was a real man. A real soldier. There was a man who devoted all he had to his duty, no matter how seemingly insignificant his duty might appear at the time, no matter how great the odds. And you should have seen those trucks on the road to Tunisia. Those drivers were magnificent. All day and all night they rolled over those son-of-a-bitching roads, never stopping, never faltering from their course, with shells bursting all around them all of the time. We got through on good old American guts. Many of those men drove for over forty consecutive hours. These men weren’t combat men, but they were soldiers with a job to do. They did it, and in one hell of a way they did it. They were part of a team. Without team effort, without them, the fight would have been lost. All of the links in the chain pulled together and the chain became unbreakable.”

The General paused and stared challengingly over the silent ocean of men. One could have heard a pin drop anywhere on that vast hillside. The only sound was the stirring of the breeze in the leaves of the bordering trees and the busy chirping of the birds in the branches of the trees at the General’s left.

“Don’t forget,” Patton barked, “you men don’t know that I’m here. No mention of that fact is to be made in any letters. The world is not supposed to know what the hell happened to me. I’m not supposed to be commanding this Army. I’m not even supposed to be here in England. Let the first bastards to find out be the Goddamned Germans. Some day I want to see them raise up on their piss-soaked hind legs and howl, ‘Jesus Christ, it’s the Goddamned Third Army again and that son-of-a-fucking-bitch Patton’.”

“We want to get the hell over there”, Patton continued, “The quicker we clean up this Goddamned mess, the quicker we can take a little jaunt against the purple pissing Japs and clean out their nest, too. Before the Goddamned Marines get all of the credit.”

The men roared approval and cheered delightedly. This statement had real significance behind it. Much more than met the eye and the men instinctively sensed the fact. They knew that they themselves were going to play a very great part in the making of world history. They were being told as much right now. Deep sincerity and seriousness lay behind the General’s colorful words. The men knew and understood it. They loved the way he put it, too, as only he could.

Patton continued quietly, “Sure, we want to go home. We want this war over with. The quickest way to get it over with is to go get the bastards who started it. The quicker they are whipped, the quicker we can go home. The shortest way home is through Berlin and Tokyo. And when we get to Berlin”, he yelled, “I am personally going to shoot that paper hanging son-of-a-bitch Hitler. Just like I’d shoot a snake!”

“When a man is lying in a shell hole, if he just stays there all day, a German will get to him eventually. The hell with that idea. The hell with taking it. My men don’t dig foxholes. I don’t want them to. Foxholes only slow up an offensive. Keep moving. And don’t give the enemy time to dig one either. We’ll win this war, but we’ll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we’ve got more guts than they have; or ever will have. We’re not going to just shoot the sons-of-bitches, we’re going to rip out their living Goddamned guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We’re going to murder those lousy Hun cocksuckers by the bushel-fucking-basket. War is a bloody, killing business. You’ve got to spill their blood, or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Shoot them in the guts. When shells are hitting all around you and you wipe the dirt off your face and realize that instead of dirt it’s the blood and guts of what once was your best friend beside you, you’ll know what to do!”

“I don’t want to get any messages saying, “I am holding my position.” We are not holding a Goddamned thing. Let the Germans do that. We are advancing constantly and we are not interested in holding onto anything, except the enemy’s balls. We are going to twist his balls and kick the living shit out of him all of the time. Our basic plan of operation is to advance and to keep on advancing regardless of whether we have to go over, under, or through the enemy. We are going to go through him like crap through a goose; like shit through a tin horn!”

“From time to time there will be some complaints that we are pushing our people too hard. I don’t give a good Goddamn about such complaints. I believe in the old and sound rule that an ounce of sweat will save a gallon of blood. The harder WE push, the more Germans we will kill. The more Germans we kill, the fewer of our men will be killed. Pushing means fewer casualties. I want you all to remember that.”

The General paused. His eagle like eyes swept over the hillside. He said with pride, “There is one great thing that you men will all be able to say after this war is over and you are home once again. You may be thankful that twenty years from now when you are sitting by the fireplace with your grandson on your knee and he asks you what you did in the great World War II, you WON’T have to cough, shift him to the other knee and say, “Well, your Granddaddy shoveled shit in Louisiana.” No, Sir, you can look him straight in the eye and say, “Son, your Granddaddy rode with the Great Third Army and a Son-of-a-Goddamned-Bitch named Georgie Patton!”

I have been watching the ‘talking heads’ on TV and listening to them proclaim that the democrats would love to see Newt as the GOP nominee, I do not buy it. I firmly believe the democrats are scared to death of that happening, that they are using reverse psychology so that republicans will be swayed away from Newt and be pushed towards who the democrats really want as the GOP nominee, Romney.

Newt is the polar opposite of Obama, and would destroy Obama in debates.  Romney on the other hand has no contrast to Obama. Romney care, Obama care, what the heck will they debate about that will set them apart? Obama will use that to his advantage. Sure Newt has baggage that Obama would go after about his personal life, Obama may have only been married once and never cheated on his wife, great, he is still destroying the country, so don’t put so much emphasis on fidelity for people who want to run the country. Clinton was a good example, he routinely cheated on his wife,  but the economy was good so he got re-elected. That is what people really care about it seems, a good economy.

White collar high rollers and the GOP ‘establishment’ are also pushing for Romney because they are scared to death of Newt.  They know Newt will hold them accountable for their irresponsible greed that has contributed to the country’s downward slide. They know Romney will not. Newt has said he will go after activist judges that think they can ‘invent’ laws from the bench,  judges that try to re-write the Constitution from the bench, this is a huge reason the GOP establishment and the democrats are scared to death of Newt,  They know he means what he says.

If you want real change that will put America on the road to recovery, if you want to see heads roll that contributed to the mess we are in, vote for Newt Gingrich. If you want a wishy washy Massachusetts ‘moderate’ who will not hold anyone accountable vote for Romney. John McCain just endorsed Romney, one weak moderate endorsing another, that should tell you the ‘fix’ is in for more of the same. Every news outlet, including Fox,  is pushing Romney and minimizing Newt for all they are worth, they are trying to manipulate the outcome of this race, don’t allow them to do what they have been doing for years any longer.  If you want real reforms Newt will bring them. Let the heads begin to roll!
